Finding Power and Hope in Luke’s Words to Theophilus

This book presents Luke’s letter to Theophilus as he intended it to be read, one letter covering both the gospel and the establishment of the church, the body of Christ. Though faithful to the language of the World English Bible, the wording and grammar are slightly modified to provide a better reading experience for modern readers. The depth of character, intellect, diligence, and humility of Luke are clear as he presents a historical theology from his secondhand and sometimes firsthand witness. Reading his letter as it is presented offers insight into the life, acts, words, death, and resurrection of Jesus and the amazing transition to the great leaders of the first century church: Peter, Stephen, Paul, and others, including Luke. Luke’s compassion reflects the heart of a physician; his precision reflects the mind of a historian. As a faithful companion of Paul, his unwavering loyalty and devotion are equally evident. Whether tending to the sick, carefully recording events, or standing beside an imprisoned apostle, Luke reveals a steady character marked by faithfulness, clarity, and quiet strength. In 2 Timothy 4:11, Paul, imprisoned and near the end, says, “Only Luke is with me now...” Read this book and experience the power of the gospel and the promise of the church through the words of a truly great follower of Christ.
