AARON ST. JULIEN To read Sanctuary of the Soul is to witness Aaron St. Julien’s journey from darkness into the light. Sanctuary is the compilation of St. Julien’s poetry over a 16-year period. The 29-year old Pittsburgh, PA native began putting pen to paper at the age of 13. He did not know his words would ultimately end up as a book. But St. Julien’s metamorphosis from an embryo in an urban jungle, to a young man grappling with the meaning of life, has been the canvas for his multifaceted approach to writing and viewing the world. He has served in the Army National Guard for two years, where he noticed he had changed because he became more rigid. He has also worked as a laborer and has gleaned wisdom from the elderly clients he has worked with as a health care aid. His two-year stint as a flight attendant for US Airways afforded him the unique opportunity to travel to locations such as the Honduras, Barbados, Rome, Egypt, Trinidad and Mexico. St. Julien met many individuals from various walks of life that have helped mold his world view. He documented his growth by consistently putting his thoughts and emotions in writing. His personal voyage has provided the foundation for him to delve into the spiritual realm to make sense of his physical surroundings. “This book is a spiritual journey through poetry,” said St. Julien. “Words can help to open the mind and challenge you to think things you may not have thought before. It goes even deeper. It’s connecting with people’s souls.” He is wise beyond his years because he has challenged himself, faced his fears and documented the journey.
