*BE ENTERTAINED WITH A ROUND-ROUNDED COLLECTION OF STORIES THAT IS EMOTIONALLY SATISFYING

This collection of short stories reflect memories of: Childhood, The Fifties, Love, Faith, Memorable Moments, and Special Men.

A different gemstone was selected to reflect stories in each of the six sections.

Just as gemstones have different shapes, colors, and many facets, so do these stories.

Storytelling was a part of our ancestry and a lost art with today’s generation.

It is our desire that you will enjoy the flavor of the past. Our hope is that our children and children’s children will read and pass them on, thereby keeping the memories alive.

YOU'RE BACK WITH THE LIVING

by Lillie Cook

I remember when we lived in Liberty, Texas in 1974. I was thirty-four years old and had started having serious health problems. The doctor found a large fibroid tumor in my female organs and said it needed to come out. This did not sound like much fun to me, but I felt ill all the time. We had five active children to raise, so I knew the surgery had to take place.

Surgery was in progress in the operating room when I started waking up. I became nauseous and began vomiting, and this caused me to hemorrhage.

The doctor complained to the nurses for not giving me sufficient anesthesia. "Give her something to stop her nausea. She needs more anesthesia; I want her unconscious for this surgery," ordered the doctor.

I could hear the nurses running around in a panic...their pantyhose rubbing together and skirts rustling. I felt myself float above the room as the doctor said, "We're losing her!"

I must be dying. Floating above them, I could see them working frantically on my body. Ghostly white, my body lay on the table, and the blood-splattered floor gave evidence of the situation.

I started thinking about my family. We have too many kids for the grandparents to care for, and my sister has a house full already.

Then...I felt the Love of God, and I heard Him say, "Don't worry. Your kids will be taken care of. You are in a family of love." It was at this time that the nurses stopped running around in a panic, and one began to cry.

I saw the brightest light I had ever seen, and I began whizzing through a bluish-black velvet-looking tunnel toward a bright light. When I reached the end, I heard beautiful music playing. I saw people walking about as though in a thick fog from their knees down.

My maternal grandparents were there, and they turned around to see me. Holding out their hands toward me, they said, "Lillie, we've so glad to see you. We've been waiting for you."

As I started to step out of the tunnel, they held their hands up as to say, Stop. Go back...God is not finished with you yet." Then they turned their backs to me.

I felt a thud.
