Transcribing (retyping from hardcopy)

As an industry-leading self-publisher, Outskirts Press knows that sometimes manuscripts have been hand-written (or the only existing copy is in paper format). So, when authors need transcribing services for their book, we can help.

$6 per page

Quantity: 1

Publishing with Outskirts Press (or anywhere, really) requires having your manuscript in digital format on a computer. If you only have a hardcopy (type-written or handwritten), this option is for you. The price refers to the page count of submitted hard copy version.

Manuscripts that are written by hand or exist only in hardcopy (typed on a manual typewriter, for example) are perfect candidates for our optional Transcription Service. One of our professional transcriptionists will take your hardcopy manuscript and re-type it into a Word for Windows word processor in a reasonable replication of the general format presented by the hardcopy version. Specific or alternative formatting of text present in the hardcopy version is not a function of transcription and will need to be re-formatted by the author once the transcribed text file is received.

Obviously, the manuscript needs to be legible for us to perform this service. If the manuscript is handwritten, the transcriptionist will make the best reasonable attempt to decipher and transcribe the handwriting. It is the transcriptionist's prerogative to indicate that a manuscript is not legible enough to be transcribed.  If a manuscript cannot be transcribed, the author will receive a refund of the transcription option fee, minus a nominal handling fee.

Then, you will receive the electronic Word file to review and make corrections as you see fit.  It is your responsibility to review the transcribed file thoroughly and make any necessary edits, changes, or modifications from what the transcriptionist created for you.  You will then have a digital version of your book to submit for publication.

The author expressly understands that transcriptionists are human beings and the act of transcribing a document is a manual act. As such, the author expressly understands and agrees that the transcribed manuscript may contain errors. We guarantee a 95% accuracy rate.  Transcriptionist jobs falling outside of a 95% accuracy rate will be re-transcribed at no cost to the author.

Outside of receiving an illegible manuscript, the Transcribing Option fee becomes non-refundable once purchased.
