Rev. Monsignor Loreto (Mac) Gonzales, Jr. is a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, California. Currently, he is serving as priest-resident at St. Bernadette’s Church in Los Angeles. Ordained in 1978, he served as associate pastor (1978-90); director of Filipino Pastoral Ministry (1990-2000); pastor (1992-2014) at Holy Family in Artesia and St. Barnabas in Long Beach; and Senior Priest in Sacred Heart, Altadena (2014-18). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy at St. Pius X Seminary in the Philippines. In 1977, he graduated at St. John’s Seminary School of Theology in Camarillo, California. In 1985, he earned his Master’s degree in Communications Management at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California. In 2018, he graduated with a degree of Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles. That same year, he published “Lorenzo–A Two-Act Play,” based on the life and martyrdom of St. Lorenzo Ruiz of Manila. Over the years, he has been writing about faith-based stories. In 2015, he published “Lighthouses Both Sides of the Pacific,” his novella “Sacred Silence” in 2020, his novel, “Ripples” in 2021, a legacy book, “Remembrances and Exemplars,” in 2023; and in 2026, “Female Messiah,” an anthology of short screenplays.
