Book Excerpt

Book excerpt: Chapter Nine - At that very moment, the walls seemed to be closing in on Taylor as she listened to her mother talk with Dena Anderson, Stephen’s “chick-on-the-side.”

“Well, let me just ask you this, are you still pregnant?” Diane inquired.

“Again, I really don’t think I should be the one…..”

“Dena,“ Diane shouted as she interrupted her. “I don’t have time to play games with you. Taylor is my only child. Put yourself in my shoes…better yet, put yourself in her shoes. Taylor is schedule to wed Stephen in exactly six days, five hours, thirty minutes and twenty-two…twenty-one...twenty seconds and counting. Now, I’m going to ask you one more time, are you or are you not still pregnant?”

“Yes, I’m still pregnant,” Dena confessed.

“Is Stephen, the father,” Diane asked. “Even if you don‘t answer that question, I can safely say by looking at this information that Stephen is certainly a very real possibility.”

“For your information, Mrs. LaRue,” Dena said sharply. “Stephen is the only possibility. He is in fact the father of this baby, and we have been seeing each other for several months now. I left it up to Stephen as to how he chose to break the news to Taylor.”

“Break the news,” Diane barked. “What do you mean break the news?”

“Stephen and I are engaged to be married next month,“ Dena confirmed.

Engaged to be married…….were the last words Taylor heard coming out of her mother’s mouth before everything around her faded to black.
