Robert Hardin was born and raised in Arkansas. His father was a traveling salesman and his mother loved mystery novels. Robert served in the 101st Airborne Division in the Army and received his undergraduate education at Columbia University where he studied creative writing under Russ Hills, fiction editor of Esquire magazine. After college Robert stayed in New York to work as a stock broker on Wall Street for several years. In 1972 he relocated to Sausalito, California and established a tax practice in San Francisco after acquiring a late in life law degree. Robert is a private pilot with single, multi-engine, and instrument ratings. And he sailed his 40' foot racing sloop the Hard n' Fast in several ocean races to Hawaii and Mexico. In January 2005 Robert and his wife, Kathryn, moved to a beach house in a small pueblo near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This is where Robert died of heart disease on December 30, 2010
