Chosen By Outskirts Press For The 2009 EVVY BOOK AWARDS!

Covering a diverse collection of poetry, philosophical phrases, photos and more, Karen Lynn S. promises to deliver her work with a perpetual intensity. Karen's technique is considered to be a phantasm of raw, street savvy, inspiring insight that demonstrates her unique style of expression. "The Crow's Nest" is based on today's failing society, world conflicts, killing of the innocent in the name of religion, greed, politics and the wrath (or punishment) of mother nature. Karen writes in "The Crow's Nest" those of the brave, the purpose of our founding fathers and condemns those that stand behind the cowardly masks they wear to inflict fear and death to those of less fortitude. Yet still, as only Karen can, she writes about these issues without losing her unique, sensual style. Karen's hope is that through her work, "The Crow's Nest" and others, she can help bring back an important part of history, people and techniques she considers to have been lost to the fast pace of today's society.

DEMONS Silent cries Muffled sounds, Tears streaming down, Intense fright Frozen with terror... No escape, the devils lair, Constricted blood Dampened ground, In total darkness completely bound, Seeing nothing Feeling all, Evil dwells... you hear it call, Buried alive You gasp for breath, You’re hungry now, for certain death, Pain and anguish Now radiate, You’re face to face don’t hesitate, Rising up It’s all been said... The demons here, were in your head

About Karen Lynn S.

Born in San Diego California and raised in Lakeside, (a suburb of San Diego), Karen’s parents divorced when she was a small child. Karen was raised by a single working parent, her mother, Edna. Karen always strives to excel in those things she loved and did so in her days as a Track Star at her alma mater, El Capitan in Lakeside. After graduating Karen traveled extensively for the next three years and visited 28 states. She married in the early 1990’s and had two children. It was then that Karen began writing Children’s Books, while also starting a career in the Security Field working for a major Hotel Casino Resort. Through her work in the Security end of the business, she saw many families lose everything through the addiction of alcohol, drugs and gambling. It was watching these stories unfold day after day that Karen realized that society had neglected the real victims . . . the children. She believes now as she has always believed that the most important commodity in the world is our children, as they one day will become our future. Karen divorced in 2002 and has since remarried. Karen now resides in Reno, Nevada with her husband, Thomas and her two children, Dylan and Kelci. Karen has several children stories in progress, aimed at inspiring the imaginations of both children as well as adults. Dr. Seuss was always a favorite of Karen’s as she so demonstrates in several of her children’s stories as well as a few of her poetic works. Karen states, “the world is a playground that fuels the imagination”. Karen’s dream is to add those stories into a collection all their own and to hopefully publish them in her next book.
