The rounds threw shattered wood, plastic splinters and paper bits up in the air as if a small tornado had hit them. Palmer reflexively returned fire causing O'Brien and Fagan to dive for cover. Glass and splinters flew as Palmer's rounds shattered the contents of the desk above O'Brien's head. The sound of the gunfire was deafening inside the room. On the way down O'Brien fired another burst as Leroy finished squeezing off his last offering. Three rounds found their mark on the chest of Leroy Palmer. The holes in his shirt rose in ascending order resembling a child's side view drawing of a staircase. He fell down behind the desk. By now Wong had opened up.
