Harry Cline, a nervous Homes salesman is accused of a violent, premeditated murder...but then Harry stumbles on more cold-blooded murders with stunning similarities to the first. Then a startling find followed and disturbing facts began to emerge...of deceit, unbridled ambition and ruthlessness. He was on the run; the law, in hot pursuit, was close on his heels and just ahead of him was a vicious, smart murderer..., powerful, enigmatic and deadly... waiting patiently for a last kill!

“…some things aren’t right about the case…in a murder you look for the usual suspects…but in this case they are missing; there are just no usual suspects…”

“ It’s made headlines,” Sam Boulder said, grappling with the wheel of his Plymouth wagon with stunning fierceness “ you can imagine the upheaval it’s caused. The Democrats now know they’re on the way to losing at the polls,” he leaned sideways to peek at the papers’ blazing caption “ it’s my bet Condoleezza’s lost out”
“ What’s gonna happen next?” Harry asked him. He sat snugly in the passenger seat, several newspapers lying open on his laps. The Times was spread open in his face. Sam shrugged, accelerating a little. He honked severally at a slow-moving diesel truck just ahead of the Plymouth. “Search me,” he says. “ I think maybe they’d go to substitute him. Somewhere in the papers it says they’re gone on an emergency meeting.”
“ The outcome is predictable. The party’s flagman is under suspicion…as a matter of fact indicted for murder and other serious crimes. I still believe they would look inside them for a replacement”
“ Sure!” Sam nodded aggressively. “ The situation’s bound to precipitate substitution crisis. What else anyway? He’s not fit to run. You know what’s at stake. Not just the party angle but also the whole of the United States would be in serious trouble. Condoleezza has serious shortcomings.” Harry leafed through the pages. Sam began to overtake the truck, honking his horn at the same time.
“It’s really a tug of ugly war,” Harry commented. “The nation’s elections are due in few weeks’ time. The time is short; how the hell do they hope to achieve that? Don’t get me wrong but I don’t see him quitting without a fight”
Sam was vehemently critical. “ Bulshit. He doesn’t stand a fucking chance! Well, yeah, he could take the party to court but he isn’t going to win it. Besides, he’s set for the gallows. The murder rap will see to that. There’s not a doubt that the indictment will stick.”
Harry was silent for a long time while trying earnestly to cover a line in the paper against the growing dusk. The tiny prints became nearly invisible and he soon gave up with a sigh. He threw the paper aside.
“ It’s bound to rain tonight, “ Sam noted as he flicked the car’s headlights on. The twin, powerful bulbs stabbed through the growing dusk with blinding intensity. Behind them the big diesel powered engine faded into the background. Thick clouds were swiftly gathering in the darkening sky and irregular flashes of lightning streaked across the heavens. The wind was turning fierce; trees and shrubs stretching for miles down the road bowed to the superior power of the resulting menace. The speeding vehicle braced the fierce wind tenaciously.
“ Sure you really wanna do this?” Sam asked suddenly, doubt evident in his voice. “It’s a run-down cemetery and a lonely spot…maybe dangerous. It’s also miles away from any help, buddy. You want to still go ahead with this…it’s a suicide mission and you could end up dead. Forgive me but I don’t mean to become a clog. This is a dead wrong move you intend making.”
“ Show me a better way to die,” Harry said musingly, his eyes following the beam of headlights traveling before them. “ I would rather this way than pining away in a jail cell.”
“ The FBI are now fully in this. Don’t you think you should leave this to them? They’re better equipped than you are. It’s a wiser choice; that way you could stay alive. Wolfowitz can guarantee you get a fair trial…he told me so and I know a gentleman’s word when I hear one.”
“ They have nothing at stake. Wolfowitz is primarily concerned with how he will clinch it at the polls by defeating Condoleezza.” Harry responded in exhaustion. Sam was silent a while; he flicked the light beams high and then low. “ What are you gonna do there anyway…resurrect corpses or try to figure which graves Condoleezza’s victims lie?”
“ Maybe both,” Harry returned cheerlessly. “ Am just keeping to my hunches. Dan Floyd once managed the cemetery. He left in a hurry; when you’re in a hurry you are bound to drop and leave things behind you would not normally have. They could be insignificant but you never know. They are a killer’s footprints.”
