Brain Injury Survivor's Guide: Welcome to Our World is written for Brain Injury Victims and their families by a Brain Injury Survivor and her family.

In clear, easy-to-understand prose, Brain Injury Survivor’s Guide provides insight not just for those surviving brain injuries, but also their families, friends, co-workers and anyone else who just wants to understand more about the experience of living with brain injuries from the patient’s perspective. It also provides information and guidelines specific to family members who find themselves in the new role of caregiver, and tips on how best to deal with medical professionals.

Seventeen years ago, Beth suffered an anoxic stroke while in the hospital, devastating her memory and turning what was once rote and commonplace into monumental tasks. From making a cup of coffee and shopping for groceries, to applying her make-up and using an ATM, Beth had to re-learn just about everything.

Over time, however, the Larry and Beth developed an effective system to acquire basic skills and cope with the dramatic change in lifestyle, a system that eventually helped Beth maintain a full-time job and successfully resume her roles of wife, mother and friend. Those strategies and how-to steps, designed to improve memory, cognitive skills and behavior, are what became The Brain Injury Survivor’s Guide.

What Others Are Saying:

This book was just what I needed to help me understand what my son is going through and how I may be better able to help him. Thank you so much Larry & Beth!! It's only been 8 months but he's doing great and I love the lists the book uses to help keep things organized and remembered. I also love your website! For anyone who is going through TBI or any form of brain injury this book is a must. - J. Forest (Louisiana))

My significant other is a brain injury survivor. We read this book together and found it extremely helpful. Larry and Beth have put into words a very difficult struggle and given practical advice, suggestions and different ways to look at things. My survivor went through so many of the things Beth describes such as confusion in the grocery store, and stepping off curbs without looking, in addition to the need for independence. For families, friends and survivors this book really walks you through what to expect and how to get through it! - J, (Connecticut)

We know these people, or at least we thought we did. Now we understand a lot more about them and appreciate them even more. Larry & Beth have opened up a world that is really scary to many people and they opened it up in such a revealing way. Our hats off to them. This is the first book that I'm seen my wife read cover to cover and be really interested in. If you are close to or know anyone who has suffered from TBI, then get this book. It will tell you a lot. This should be a handout in every trauma facility. - M. J. West, (Arkansas)

I received your book in the mail yesterday and read it last night. I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed it. You and Beth did a wonderful job. I ordered two more copies and plan to give them to (family members). This book will be a tremendous help to a person who has suffered some type of brain trauma and to his/her family. This book is 2 Cor. 1:3-4 in action. - M, M.Div. (Mississippi)

Hi Larry and Beth,
I am pleased to include a link to your book "Brain Injury Survivor's Guide" on the front page of our (website) books page. - W (British Columbia)

Wow. Thank you so much for writing this. I too have a brain injury from ARDS. Mine happened in November 2002. I am still on disability. It means a lot when other survivors talk about what happened to them (or their families.) - M
