In The Adventures of Gabby and Coyote Girl, ten-year-old Gabby Miller raises a precocious female coyote pup rescued from poachers. Gabby and her father must teach Coyote Girl to be independent for release back into the wild. The two youngsters embark on many adventures as they hike and hunt throughout the forest. Gabby has an unusual ability to communicate with Coyote Girl and agonizes when her best friend must be returned to the wild.
J. M. Lewis is a student of nature and wildlife, wielding the written craft to capture the out of doors much like an artist wields a brush. The pages are a canvas on which she draws from her experiences in nature to bring alive an imaginary pair of friends who rise to hero status. The Adventures of Gabby and Coyote Girl is the first in a series of recent pursuits, with work progressing quickly on the follow-up.
