This is the story of the Ryan family and their loyalty to the Chicago Cubs. It follows Frank Ryan, his children and grandchildren, including Jack Ryan over a hundred years watching the Cubs during their good and not so good years. Grandson Jack Ryan plays for the Chicago Cubs Legends team comprised of Ernie Banks, Three Finger Brown, Johnny Evers and Hack Wilson among others. They have an outstanding season and the players' wives and girl friends have a great time watching. The games become increasingly better attended as the season progresses.
Challenged by the Detroit Tigers Legends team, inlucing Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford, Hank Greenberg and Schoolboy Roe, the Cubs play the Legends World Series in Cooperstown, New York over the Labor Day weekend, 2008.
Sunday afternoon, while her husband, Jack ran some errands, Angela sat on the recliner and skimmed through the junk mail. She came to the copy of the Southwest Herald mailed to them by the sports summer intern Casey Bates and opened it to the sports section.
CUBS LEGENDS OF GAME WIN AGAIN! Casey Bates
Hey Cubs' fans. Want to see Ernie Banks, Ryne Sandberg, and Billy Williams again? Or maybe the Cubs of historical lore. Johnny Evers, Frank Chance, Joe Tinker, Hack Wilson and Three Finger Brown. The Cubs Legends are your answer. The Legends are a group of teams of guys 35 years of age or older, who play baseball in the summers. They adopt Cubs player's names and often play the same position on the field, and if you squint real hard, they almost look like them. Well, maybe not. But just pretend. The games are played on the weekend, they all sign autographs (for free) and you can have your picture taken with them. More importantly, a family of four can see the game with parking and get change back from a $10 bill. Last weekend the Cubs won both games, once against the Phillies, the other against the Cardinals, their long time rival in the Legends league. Three finger Brown threw a two hit shutout and is now 13-0. The Cubs Legends are now 22-4 for the season. They are the best team in all of Illinois. Heck, folks, maybe they are the best team in baseball period. Come out and see them. You will have a blast. Next weekend, they play the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers at Highland Park field with the likes of Honus Wagner, Roberto Clemente and Dave Parker for the Pirates, and Don Drysdale, Sandy Koufax, and Roy Campanella for the Dodgers. As Angela then skimmed down the remainder of the article, she saw that Casey then detailed the last weekend's games. Hey, not bad for a soon to be high school senior. Nice going, Casey. Jack needs to see this and then we need o write a note of appreciation to Casey.
