Books by Douglas Gilbert
There is an artist inside each of us, just waiting to be recognized! Douglas Gilbert's very human and inclusive approach to the timeless phenomenon of art-making applies to everyone!"With Doug's help I have gained the confidence that I in fact can reach myself through this natural language. It has allowed me to be sensitive and feeling, to experience that it's okay to be myself. My batteries get recharged. I have more confidence and more energy for work in general." - Michael Feldman, Creative Director"With Doug's supportive and nurturing presence I have been able to go deeper into myself through my imagery than I ever thought possible. This has led to very real, tangible healing, and I will always be grateful for having been his student." - George Collins, Student "As participants in Doug's workshops we create a bond of kinship and community because what we reveal to one another is strong and juicy and true." - Carla Steinberg, Ph.D, Writer/Teacher "The images we create speak with uncompromising clarity. They reveal the core issues and tasks at the heart of our psychological and spiritual development. Doug's understanding of this is profound." - Ben Kanne, MFCC

Who we are and how we perceive our place in this world is expressed in the images we create. And the degree of our involvement in the expression of how we relate to it reveals the level of our sense of connectedness to ourselves. Many have come to believe that the creation of art lives in the rarefied atmosphere of “talent” and/or “madness”, and has little application to the rest of us in the real world. And yet somewhere in each of us there is a longing to enter the stream of our own creativity because we sense that it can provide the means of feeling more connected to what is most important to us. . It can help us touch the vital mystery that courses through us unconsciously. This longing is what gave rise to art in the beginning, the urge to take one’s place and to touch the mystery. Art is about daily life! It is not about museums and auctions and reviews. It is not about making money. In fact, art-making is not about Art! Rather, it is about the human spirit, about our deepest need to belong, to explore, to open our hearts, and to become whole.
