Are you at peace with yourself? Would you like a way to break out of the stress/disease cycle? In Thriving in Mind, Body, and Spirit, Dr. Shaun Dyler provides practical applications that you can begin to incorporate today to transform your life.
Dr. Dyler: “I have seen many individuals who have enjoyed good physical health but still suffered from depression, anxiety, and a sense of vulnerability. I have also seen individuals with poor physical health who had a deep joy and unwavering faith, and it’s been my joy to help them understand their bodies better. For my patients who were fairly healthy physically and yet suffered psychologically, what was important was the need to address their mind and spirit. Many self-help books attempt to address the above issues; what I have tried to do is to clearly and effectively tie them all together. Through this book, I believe you’ll gain insights into improving your health and living the abundant life that God promises.”
Thriving In Mind, Body and Spirit is sure to inspire, challenge, and help you move toward new levels of wellness.
1:1 Life Is Difficult…but God! (The undeserved grace, mercy and favor that God pours out on His children)
Just when life feels under control, a storm hits. Picture yourself driving down a beautiful country road on a sunny spring day. You reach to tune in your favorite radio station and it comes in crystal clear. But 10 minutes later, dark clouds appear on the horizon, and the radio snaps and crackles. Fortunately you’re still able to hear a weather alert about a tornado in the direction you’re driving! You quickly turn around and head for home. Before long the sun is shining again and you’re gleefully singing along with the music on the radio. Are you “tuned in”? You might get tired of hearing me say it, but it’s my premise and experience that staying tuned in—tuned in to God-is the key to a meaningful and good life. When we seek God, pray and get to know Him personally, obey and follow His commands we can live “in tune” with Him. When we are in tune with God we are more likely to make good decisions and thereby avoid a lot of stress and anxiety associated with bad choices. Living in conscious, constant communion with our creator helps us gain wisdom, insight, and reverence for life that in turn will shape our every choice both big and small along the way. You can’t allow the static of the world’s pressures to distract you from God’s voice. Seek to understand what God is trying to tell you through your challenging circumstances, the people He uses as teachers in life, and the body He created for you. The challenging circumstances in your life are not haphazard disjointed events that we fall in and out of. Neither are the people in our lives. Ponder and you may be able to recognize patterns that may be continually repeating themselves. The story line and actors might change but the scenario is familiar if we slip out of denial and connect the dots. So what are the life lessons? The main life lesson is that we must die to self in order to find life in God. We will explore this in depth in this chapter. Most other lessons will stem from this and will include lessons in our honesty, in our ability to forgive others, in our ability to love others, in our ability to not judge others and in our ability to admit wrongs. Is everything in life a lesson? No. There are also life reminders, life tests and spiritual warfare. There may be reminders about the consequences of our bad choices, reminders about the fragility of life here on earth and reminders that we are not in control of most variables other then our choice of how we react and respond to people and circumstances in our life. Then there are the tests to see if we have learned the life lesson, the tests to see if we have truly died to our self and the tests to see if we have our priorities if life correct. And finally there is spiritual warfare for our heart, mind and present peace/joy. This staying tuned in also applies to our bodies. Health issues and chronic symptoms are also trying to get our attention, calling us to dig deeper into understanding the root of the problem. Learn everything you can about your body and how it works (see Chapter 4). Pay attention to your body’s warning signals—an ounce of prevention is truly better than a pound of cure!
