Books by Ron Dean
Captured stories come from all the dirty songs and stories experienced, from muted winds flowing across my face, from tales that often aren't off the wall, and from lofty soliloquies that come forth out of nowhereland, perhaps from whores who really aren't whores after all, from spiritual matters, from friends, associates and strangers, the rich, the poor, or from dealers selling that which is not desired by anybody.

Gathered within are biographies of people, places, spaces, things, thoughts or micro-thoughts, with all existing characters, situations, destructions, plots, dialogues, idioms, loves, dialects, forms, styles and dramas of living, by any means as best we can. Indeed they're plays of the mind, some of the theatre of the absurd, some epic productions, biographies following or leading to dead-ends, others approaching successful outcomes, and others lost to ethereal endings.

Enter the theatre of poetic biography.

In tribute to Lone Pine CA: NO COWBOYS REMAIN
You understand, we didn't truly know his name
while strapping on his guns for far high-roads.
He lived a breed beyond us all on earth
an empowered angel of humanity.

He bought a horse, young bride once,
and staked a space for himself and several dreams within hills, trees and bush, above the sea itself deeply into the west as was feasible.

Few fences held him as he tried them all.
Because the world promised other trails,
his horse strayed, a wife called away early,
a garden gone to weeds. Chores vanished.

Without our cowboys left within the land -
no riding off into yonder fading brassy sunsets -
lone desert whisperings remain to mark his time
by tumbleweed or legend. Cry farewell to heroes.

About Ron Dean

Ron Dean is a student of the human condition, wielding the written craft to enrapture the mind much like an artist wields a brush. The pages are a blank canvas on which to draw from a talent heralded by many and matched only by an imagination that rises to the task. From Biographical Trails is the first in a series of recently collected "biographical poetry."
