When God established His covenant with the people of Israel, He instructed Moses to build a tabernacle in the wilderness. The design of that tabernacle was replete with foreshadowings of the person and ministry of Christ and of the new covenant we received in Him. Perhaps you have never seen a devotional book that explored - in any significant depth - the many spiritual lessons of the tabernacle. This work is a fascinating study of the tabernacle in daily devotional form.

God instructed Moses to enclose the court of the tabernacle with a linen fence. This fence was supported by pillars which were apparently made of wood and overlaid with brass. Fine white linen was hung on the pillars on each side of the courtyard (yet allowing for a gate on the east side). The hardware used to hang the linen was made of silver.

This fence probably represents the people of God - which is what the world sees from outside of the tabernacle court. Some who study the symbolism of the tabernacle tell us that the wood of the pillars represents humanity and the brass suggests the judgment which humanity deserves (and which Jesus bore for us). The silver is commonly thought to represent atonement. As the pillars are crowned with silver, so the saints are crowned with the atonement of Christ. The linen itself probably symbolizes the “righteousness of the saints” (Revelation 19:8) which is supported by the atonement. The whiteness of the linen suggests the purity and holiness with which the saints are clothed.

As we start each new day of our walk with God, let us remember the weakness of our own humanity and the judgment from which we have been delivered by Christ’s offering of atonement for us. Let us remember that He has made us to pure in God’s sight by the cleansing of His own blood. Ask God to help you walk in that purity and holiness today. Ask Him to strengthen you with His power and grace. Trust Him to answer your prayer by showing you how to reveal Christ through your own life and witness.

You might be the only example of God’s power and holiness that folks in the world ever see.
