By the 24th Century, a polluted and overpopulated Earth was no place for those who were different or needed medical care. A small group of disabled people was given the chance for cures in space during a voyage to a colony few people knew existed.
In the Centauri system, they found paradise on a water world of scattered islands, intelligent robots that were once human, an alien creature so strange it could not be classified, and travelers from another star who were very like themselves. Almost against their will, they were drawn into the final battle of the Terror Wars to stop a fanatical group that would destroy the colony and isolate humanity from alien influence.
Along the way, they learned the value of cooperation and returned with new technologies to save an ailing Earth.
