Move over, desperate widows and divorcees - when it comes to passion, jealousy, and revenge, the folks at the Shady Nook Retirement Village are experts at looking for love in all the wrong places. Charles is smitten with Amber, but Amber is dating Salvatore. Nevertheless she fears that Charles may not be able to resist the charms of the rather buxom Nadine. Then there's Salvatore and Frank and the golf foursome to consider. You see, at Shady Nook, it's not just golf, tennis, and shuffleboard that keeps the hearts pounding. When Doris attempts to discover new talent for the community's annual fall pageant, everyone wants to get in the act - if only to engage in a libidinous battle of one-upmanship, much to Doris's horror. In place of the refined musical showcase she traditionally produced, the current pageant takes on an air reminiscent of vaudeville, complete with an amazing dog, a standup comedian and a very unusual Shakespeare reading. Written with wry humor and a trace of satire, this book will keep you smiling with an occasional out-burst of laughter.

Charles was feeling pretty good about himself now that he had knocked off Salvatore in the tennis match but he wasn't sure how Amber felt and he was thinking a lot about her.
He was afraid to call because he thought she might hang up on him. His confidence in Craig was at an all time high since it was he who masterminded the successful tennis match and it wouldn't hurt to ask for more advice. Maybe he could give Craig a bag of golf balls as an excuse to open up another conversation. No better idea came to mind so he went over to the ball hawk guy and bought a dozen used balls in a plastic bag for five bucks.
Charles met Craig in the parking lot the next day and gave him the used golf balls. Craig threw the the balls in the trunk of his Cadillac and asked Charles; "How are things?"
"Not good," Charles said, "I think Amber's sore at me and I don't know what to do about it, got any ideas?"
"Well not right at the moment, but I'll think it over and get back to you, Craig replied.
That night while eating a submarine sandwich for his dinner, Craig told Elaine, his wife, about Charles's problem. Elaine, seeming a little annoyed asked, "Why doesn't he just walk up to her and tell her he's got the hots for her?"
"Not a good idea."
"How about if he just dragged her into the bush's and raped her?"
"Be sensible Elaine, call Ardis."
When Elaine came back after making the call, she said "Ardis thinks Charles should send Amber a nice note telling her how sorry he is about Salvatore's ankle , and ask if there is anything he can do to help."
"Brilliant."
Craig called Charles that evening and laid out his plan.
Charles was really pleased. That's a marvelous idea." he said, "Why didn't I think of it?"
When Amber received the note, her first reaction was, what could that weasel do to help? But on second thought, I wonder if he can rattle a Tambourine.
After the disaster at the tennis match between Charles and salvatore, Amber was forced to abandon the tap-dancing routine with Salvator because of his injury and she was in a quandry. Should she go it alone, or was there a better plan? After much thought she decided to drop by the pool and go on a little fishing expedition.
