A gritty tale of a troubled teen, exiled from his Amish society by his abusive father. While living outside his culture as lead singer in a rock band, he begins to unravel the secrets of his father's hatred and intolerance towards him. This double lifestyle is confusing to Nicolaus, to say the least. He finds his English world irrational, his Amish, barely reachable.

Tell me Im doing the right thing, Israel, pleaded Nicolaus, looking straight ahead with tears in his eyes. Nicolaus, you dont know how long I have prayed that you would do this. I have watched all these years, Dad doing to you what nobody has the right to do to another person, let alone his own son. Now finally, you have the chance to go out on your own. Yah Nicolaus, youre doing the right thing! Will you pray for me, Israel? Nicolaus asked, with a feeling of love that unexpectedly washed over him for his brother. I will pray every day, but dont go so far that I cannot hear your heartbeat! I love you
So youre the lead singer at the bar you all work at? Mandy asked, letting some time pass and half of Nicolaus meal be consumed before speaking to him again. Nicolaus glanced over at her with a slight smile and nodded, his mouth bulging, too full to answer. How did you come from being an Amish ah person to an entertainer in a bar? Mind you, Im not judging you, simply curious, she said, giving Nicolaus time to swallow his food. Its a long story. Im sure Karen will tell you all about it someday! Nicolaus said as he wiped his mouth with his napkin and placed it on his plate.

Unbelievable
magic fingers, A reviewer Oh my...i would never have thought in a million years that a book could be that captivating...Zanne Kennedy makes you feel every emotion as if it were really happening...putting the book down was not an option and waiting for the sequel is even more tortuous...this is a must read and the book of 2008...thanks Zanne
K Hawkins, A reviewer I began reading Silent Discourse with a slight interest of Amish culture, but with little knowledge of their beliefs and practices. As I read further into this novel I was absorbed into a world I never knew existed. The characters enraptured my interests and surprised my expectations. I fell in love with Nicolaus from the beginning and easily found myself tangled within his sorrows and struggles. What better way to view our 'English' world than through the eyes of such sincere beauty?

Fan Forever Silent Discourse is a book that catches you from the first page. What an unbelievable book, I had a hard time putting it down. I can't wait until Still, Small Voice comes out. Zanne Kennedy has a hit!
Can't wait for the next installment!
Cheri dying to read volume 2 Zanne Kennedy's Silent Discourse is a seven course meal for the soul. Her characters are rich with personality and capture the reader's interest immediately. Having lived near an Amish community, and enjoyed holiday dinners with the Amish, I can safely say that she has captured the spirit of their culture with amazing clarity. In my humble opinion, she is a 'word nerd' of the highest order. Please hurry with #2! I'm very interested to see what happens with Sarah and Nick.
About Zanne Kennedy
Zanne Kennedy is a Graphic Artist by trade, and a student of the human condition by desire. She brandishes the craft of writing in order to captivate the mind, much like an artist wields a brush. She took the pages of initial concepts for this book from a blank canvas to a fully developed novel, drawing the reader in with her rich descriptions, characterizations and insights. You'll find Nick's struggle to balance his talents with his heritage compellingly touching. Zanne's talent has been heralded by many and in this, her first novel, it rises admirably to the task of grabbing the reader's imagination and interest. Silent Discourse is the first in a series of recent writings; stay tuned for more in the near future. You'll find yourself drawn into her characters' lives and the insider's view of the Amish world.
