Over and over, Steve Dawson found himself wrestling with the results of his curiosity for a life of adventure amidst uncommon vocations and pursuits. Close calls and narrow escapes became typical fare, though he claims this is standard for the Alaskan outdoorsman with any substantial amount of experience under his belt--judge for yourself. Required reading for anyone anticipating an adventure career in the 49th state.
My earliest memory in this life is of drowning...I was two years old at the time. A precocious love of adventure was evidently already at work as I explored the confines of our small play area, for tiring of its sameness, I sought deeper water and perhaps the laughter of the men on the far side (of the river). The next moment I was adrift in a wonderful world of green hues, swirling buoyancy, and a bright window to the sky above. I felt no twinge of panic, only pleasant wonderment and a vague detachment, as if I were watching a spendid movie unfold before me...
About Steven S. Dawson
Steve Dawson is a typical Alaskan ex-patriate, trained as a biologist, but easily distracted from that task to revel in the wonders and excitements of the greater outdoor panoply. Raised in Nevada to an eclectic mix of mining, gambling, ranching, and hunting and fishing guiding, he next tackled commercial fishing, flying, and most of what the Great Land had to offer in the twenty years he spent there. He "retired" to Montana with his family since 1986, where he operated gambling machines for ten years and still deals in antique guns.
