TRAVEL TALES is a collection of short stories written by A.B.M. Nurul Islam based on his observations while working and traveling through the vast swathe of the earth extending from the Land of the Rising Sun (Japan) on the east, through the Central Asian Republics of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the middle, to the Atlantic shores of Europe on the west. The author while working to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons as a Safeguards Inspector was a keen observer of local customs and traditions, human behavior, follies and foibles. A.B.M. Nurul Islam served from 1983 to 1999 as a Safeguards Inspector of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a specialized body of the United Nations (UN), headquartered in Vienna, Austria. His official duties required extensive travel and the author utilized it not only to fulfill his official missions but also to record his insights. As an international civil servant he used his unique perch to great advantage. His TRAVEL TALES chronicles the incidents experienced by the author as he traveled through the lands.
