Books by Bob Hubbert
Only When I Talk tells the story of Bob Hubbert, a child then man who grew up stuttering. His journey begins in an old automobile, heading from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to the promised land of California. He fights embarrassment, shame and the morays of society. He takes his journey through life, one stuttering step at a time. He regularly fights adversity, but manages to succeed. It was a fascinating trip!

One day, while playing across the street on the school grounds, I heard a commotion. I wandered toward the shouts and yells, and saw two groups of boys throwing rocks at each other. As I tried to make my way home, I was hit by something on my left forehead. I saw stars, but reached up to touch the hurt area. My hand came down covered in blood. I ran home, and made my way through the open garage and into the kitchen. I heard voices in the living room, so I moved toward them. I felt sick, and nauseated. My right hand was on my forhead, and tears were streaming down my cheek. I saw several ladies sitting in the room, my mom being one of them. I shouted out, Mmmmmom! Mmmmmom! Half-turning, my mother looked in my direction. Not fully seeing me, she shouted in a loud voice, "Bobby; if you can't talk right, don't talk at all!" For the first time in my life, I knew I was different, that I had problems speaking. I turned and ran into our bathroom, to wash the blood off my face. My mother continued hosting her Tupperware party.

About Bob Hubbert

Bob Hubbert is a student of the human condition, wielding the written craft to enrapture the mind much like an artist wields a brush. The pages are a blank canvas on which to draw from a talent heralded by many and matched only by an imagination that rises to the task. Only When I Talk is the first in a series of recent pursuits, with work progressing quickly on the follow-up.
