I tried to sense any traps he had set, but there was nothing, absolutely nothing. “That’s what you think,” came a deep, creepy voice. “Skye, did you hear that?” I asked, worried. “What? The wind?” she smiled, clearly thinking, ‘Oh Pixels, you’re so silly’. “She can’t hear me. Only you can hear me.” It came again. Ok, I thought, Skye’s right, it’s just the wind or something. “You know I’m not,” it said. “Skye? Skye? Please say you heard that.” “Ok,” she said, “I heard that.” She was clearly lying, still thinking I was silly. SKYE: I felt Pixels’ hand pulling away from me. I turned around, but Pixels was gone.

Nina Randall

Nina Randall lives on Water Island in the US Virgin Islands with her sister Grace and her dogs, Beatrice and Blitzen. She also has two cats, Artemis and Apollo, and four rabbits. She is 13 years old (October 2, 2002) and goes to the seventh grade at Antilles School. This is her first book, but not the last. Allison Simler is an artist and a scientist. She received a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from Duke University and is currently a Ph.D. student in Ecology at the University of California, Davis. There, she researches the impacts of wildfire and plant diseases on coastal redwood forests in Big Sur, CA, which gives her a chance to hike and live among the biggest trees in the world each summer. She is passionate about exploring the natural world and using art as a unique vehicle for communicating ecological topics to broader audiences, beyond the scientific community.
