The certainty in the unpredictability of emotion and violence blew in from the seas. It was hard to see where on the waves the squall came from. The land shook with tremors as swells of surf came pouring over the volcanic rock, breaking off pieces of coral. The ground and sea merged in fits like a grand mal seizure suddenly taking hold of a tortured soul, not letting go. The winds howled with angry grunts and groans, protesting against the tiny shacks getting in the way. Wooden planks and stools and goats and dirt were tossed around like tiny pieces of a child’s toy set. The air was charged, angrily bucking and blowing hard. The roar of exploding pressure was deafening. It felt like the island was being spun around, no longer anchored to its ocean roots, floating on top of a precipice dangling precariously on a tenuous tether.
