The author is no historian. He is—was—a newsman. Almost 30 years as a reporter and
editor for the St. Joseph (MO) Gazette, and later the News-Press/Gazette, permitted him to
report about, interview and/or admire or disprespect many in politics.
Toss in seven years as a TV newsman, a brief stint in military public information and five
years of news releases as a city official.
It all adds up to no historian, but an admirer of history and those who helped make history for
our nation.
