There are many problems and situations in today's society that hinder the development of our youth. Based on interviews and my work with adolteens for over eighteen years, I have discovered that communication is one of the biggest hurdles that we face with our teenagers today. Many caretakers say that teenagers are noisy, messy, rude, and inconsiderate. They tend to eat all the food in the house, be highly emotional, and talk on the phone with their friends for hours at a time. It seems as if they have to be told things a thousand times before they do as they asked. They won't talk to their caretakers when given the chance. On the other hand, adolteens say that their providers are always telling them off, yelling at them, not listening to them, and saying things such as "when I was your age..."

 

About the Author

M. W. Johnson PhD

Dr M.W. Johnson was born in Newport News, Virginia, where he was raised by his mother and stepfather. He attended Homer L. Ferguson High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. He currently resides in Dover, Delaware.

He began his formal education at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, where he spent three and one half years studying Business Administration. After a stint in the United States AirForce, he continued his education and went on to earn a B.S in Business Administration and an MBA. He later went on to complete his PhD in Human Resource Management.

M.W. Johnson has devoted over eighteen years of his life to the teaching, mentoring, coaching, and parenting of adolescents and teenagers, as well as helping to raise his own four children: Shea, Brittany, Tiffini, and Tyler. It was from those experiences that inspired him to write this book.

The book is based on the actual feelings, experiences, and emotions of the hundreds of teenagers interviewed. M.W. Johnson has always had a passion for writing it spawned from his reading of hundreds of books as a teenager, both fiction and non-fiction. He gives reading the credit for stimulating his creativity and imagination.
