When orphaned thirteen-year-old Carla finds a rabbit hiding under her dormitory bed, she is convinced “Piper” is the real Easter Bunny. The teenager declares herself on a mission to protect Piper from the clutches of evil candy maker Abrinael Sweet. Mr. Sweet wants to use the rabbit’s magical powers for profit. When Carla learns that Mr. Sweet has secretly adopted her, Carla and Piper go on the run. With Mr. Sweet, law enforcement officers, world government officials, and even the Catholic Pope hot on her trail, Carla takes her pet rabbit into hiding inside a busy shopping district. Carla solicits aid from a mysterious woman in black and Hoku the Mall Easter Bunny, who may not be the fake he claims to be. Soon Carla finds herself on a dangerous new adventure that can only be described as extreme — so extreme it stretches beyond galaxies, beyond imagination itself.
“Sure hope Piper’s okay,” Carla whispered to herself. She waved animatedly to the costumed actor, who beckoned to Carla with fluffy, white, bobbing arms and a toothy rabbit smile.
“You’re next, kid,” the actor called through his rabbit mask.
The woman in black bought a photo package for Carla, and the young orphan took her place on the large actor’s velvet costumed lap.
“Hi, I’m Hoku the Easter Bunny. That’s short for Hoax. Easter’s short for Eater when the s is silent. Should be pronounced etter, you know like utter, short for uterus. You have your very pretty mommy’s eyes,” remarked the Eater Bunny, cocking his head in observation.
