Book Details

Cheryl Rodriguez Smyre has taken events from her own life to compose Unfinished Endeavors. She has changed names, places and events to protect other parties involved. It is her hope that other young girls can claim their identities in a more positive self image.

Cheryl brings you Dreama Larue, a young woman who leads a life of self destruction due to low self-esteem. Dreama gets herself into countless loveless relationships with emotionally unavailable men only to find heartache when the relationships end. She keeps God in her life but at times her faith waivers. Throughout it all she surpasses and will continue in the books to follow.

Book Excerpt

Dreama continued to sleep with David although it was obvious he did not care for her. She remained close to Darren's mother and would go to see her as an excuse to see Darren. Although Darren said they could be friends, he continued to give Dreama the cold shoulder. As a means to get David off her mind, she began seeing Iris' brother Phillip. Phillip was in and out of a relationship that he'd been in with a girl since they were eleven years old. He and Dreama's relationship never really got off it's feet. Before school resumed in the fall, Sadie moved across town to be in a better neighborhood and to get Dreama away from the crowd that she was surrounding herself with.

Dreama missed her period and she was scared; she had been nauseaus and her breast were swollen and painful. For four months she was asking Sadie to purchase maxi pads for her each month. Call it mothers' intuition but Sadie set a doctor's appointment for Dreama. The two of them sat quietly in the doctor's office after Dreama's exam. The doctor came in and told them that Dreama was pregnant. You could see the anger and disappointment in Sadie's face and the fear in Dreama's. When they caught the Greater Richmond Transit home, Sadie was quiet all the way. When they got to their townhouse, Sadie began beating Dreama with a belt. To Dreama it seemed to last for hours. Sadie would take a break and as soon as she caught her breath, she whipped Dreama again. Later that evening, Sadie came to Dreama and told her that abortion was not an option, but she would be going to Oklahoma to live with her father. Dreama cried and screamed, begging Sadie not to send her away. Over the next couple of weeks, Sadie and Dreama had few words for each other. On Sunday, Albert and Sadie drove Dreama to the airport and she boarded a plane to go and live with a man she had only seen twice in her life.
